Post-doctoral Researchers

Ryan Solgi, Postdoc Scholar Google scholar

Ryan holds an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2024). His current research focuses on developing efficient LLMs and foundation models using tensor-based and low-rank methods. His broader interests include scientific machine learning, tensor computation, optimization algorithms, and computational geoscience.

Graduate Students

Jiayi Tian, MSc/PhD student in ECE Google scholar CV

Jiayi received her B.Eng. degree in the Department of Electronic Science and Engineering from Nanjing University in 2023, and she joined UCSB in fall 2023. Currently she is working on  efficient training and inference of LLMs via algorithm and hardware co-design.

Ruijie Zhang, PhD student in Computer Science Google Scholar

Ruijie received his B.S. and M.S. from EIC@Huazhong University of Science and Technology in China, and joined UCSB in fall 2024. He is currently working on efficient pre-training of LLMs/VLMs.

Yifan Yang, MSc/PhD student in Computer Science Google Scholar

Yifan received his B.Eng. degree in Electronic and Information Engineering from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology of China in 2021. He joined UCSB in fall 2021, and he is working on efficient training algorithms for large language models (LLM).

Ziyue (Alvin) Liu, PhD student in Computer Science  Google Scholar

Alvin received his B.S. degree in Statistics at Nankai University in China, 2020. He started his graduate study in the PSTAT department at UCSB in Fall 2021, and joined our group in Jan. 2022.  He's currently working on physics-informed operator learning and efficient pre-training of large language models.

Rahul Singh, PhD student in ECE

Rahul received his BS and MS degrees in Physics from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Kolkata in 2021. In 2022, he joined the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at UCSB as a PhD student. His research interests include quantum machine learning and quantum AI.

Yequan Zhao, MSc/PhD student in ECE

Yequan received his B.Eng. degree from the School of Integrated Circuits at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2023. He joined us in Fall 2022 firstly as a visiting student, then as a M.S./Ph.D. student in Fall 2023. Currently, he is working on tensor-compressed methods for back-propagation-free training, physics-informed neural networks, and optical neural networks.

Zhengyang Wang, MSc/PhD student in CS

Zhengyang received his B.S. degree in Computer Science at University of Science and Technology of China in 2022. He started his PhD study in Fall 2022, and joined our group in Fall 2023. His research interest lies in machine learning system and low precision training.

Liyan Tan, PhD student in ECE
 

Liyan received his B.S. degree in Electronic Information & Communications from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2019. He joined us in Fall 2022 firstly as a visiting student, then as a M.Sc. student in Fall 2023, and a Ph.D. student in Spring 2025. Currently, his research focuses on machine learning guided optimization in EDA problems. He is also interested in zeroth-order optimization and tensor-compressed neural networks.

Jin Lee, PhD student in ECE Google scholar
 

Jin Lee joined UCSB in Fall 2022, and joined our group in Spring 2025. His research interests include: (1) Scientific AI: operator learning robust to generalization outside train distribution, with tractable interpretability for data-driven scientific discovery. (2) Fault-tolerant distributed computing: algorithmic resolution for parallel distributed computing robust against faulty individual nodes.

Xinling Yu, PhD student in ECE

Xinling received his B.S. degree in applied mathematics from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2019 and his M.A. degree in applied mathematics and computational science from University of Pennsylvania in 2021. He joined UCSB in fall 2021, and he is interested in computational mathematics and data-driven modeling.
