Description

Scopen is a pen-like wireless oscilloscope that is both convenient and affordable for students in introductory engineering courses as well as engineering hobbyists. Scopen has the functionalities of a benchtop oscilloscope and the flexibility and portability of a handheld multimeter that captures voltage waveforms and transmits them wirelessly to a user's personal device. Designed for comfortable one-handed use, the device contains a scroll wheel that allows the user to conveniently change measurement settings such as time and voltage division. Scopen aims to accurately capture signals within a 20MHz bandwidth, with maximum voltages of 200V peak-peak, and minimum voltages of 75mV peak-peak, which make it a competitive offering in the market.

Description

Bermuda aims to address the problem of localized GPS loss that can be caused by potential jamming during cyberwarfare. Unlike GPS and its use of satellites, Bermuda uses cell towers to trilaterate an entity's location to provide a location tracking system that is more robust against jamming. The system is implemented by placing a multi-channel software defined radio, an inertial measurement unit, and a microcontroller on a drone. Bermuda receives and processes directional signals from cellular towers to detect the drone's location relative to the towers. Prior cell-tower geolocation data is then used as ground truth to determine the global location of the drone.

Description

With the explosion of connected electronic devices, wireless security efforts are in high demand. BlueDentist targets Bluetooth devices, which are traditionally hard to track due to their unadvertised presence and frequency hopping. BlueDentist utilizes software defined radios to collect data from a large band of frequencies and efficiently processes this data with an NVIDIA Jetson Xavier to provide a user interface which details all local Bluetooth devices and activity. A battery powered design and expandable storage interface allow long durations of monitoring unsupervised.

Description

Elephant-Human Conflict (EHC) is one of the major problems in most African and Asian countries. As humans continue to utilize natural resources for their own development, the living area of elephants continues to decrease. This leads elephants to invade human living areas and crop-raid more frequently, costing millions of dollars annually. Guardian proposes an autonomous drone system to mitigate crop-raiding. The system is comprised of three parts: a compact low-power GPS tag that is installed on the elephants, a receiver stationed in the human living area that detects the elephants' presence, and an autonomous drone that tracks and herds the elephants away from the area.

Description

Although smartphones and GPS have made navigation dramatically easier, it can still be extremely difficult for a visually impared individual to identify their location. Phone applications can show the surrounding area on a 2D plane, but require the user to interact heavily with the application to determine their physical context and surroundings. IntelliSight targets this problem by designing a pair of sunglasses, equipped with an inertial measurement unit (IMU), which quickly relay location information with a simple motion of the head. This device will directly capture the user's position and orientation, determine any landmarks or buildings present near the user, and relay the information to the user over audio. The IMU, battery, and Bluetooth module are all combined on a small footprint to fit on the sunglasses, with easy access to a charging port to improve usability.

Description

An impaired state of coagulation called coagulopathy is a deadly condition that occurs in approximately a quarter of trauma patients. This condition is not easily detectable, leading to delayed care in a time-critical situation. RTCM is a real-time coagulopathy measuring system that encases an Android device, allowing for quick and clear patient readings. A drop of blood is set into a sensor strip where it is then placed onto a thermoelectric Peltier module and connects to the sensor reader. The sensor reader is attached to a potentiostat which interfaces with a microcontroller that relays the information to the Android device. Personalized patient care is then displayed on a custom-built app. RTCM also has the capability to be charged and used at the same time ensuring ease of use for the first-responders.

Description

SafeVision detects objects that will obstruct movement of a surgical robotic arm and microscope head. SafeVision uses the spatial information of the microscope head and robotic arm to prevent collisions with obstacles during movement. Once an object interferes with the robotic arm's trajectory, SafeVision stops arm movement and warns the operator of the detected obstruction. The robotic arm uses distance measuring sensors which forward the information to a processor. The processor communicates with the main Windows system to control the robotic arm using Universal Robotics' API.

Description

One of the most important questions in Marine Biology is how new species arise and shape the biodiversity of the ocean. Sea Star (previously WALL-E) was developed to answer this question by studying cypridinid ostracods, a 'sea firefly' with incredible biodiversity: many different subspecies output various light patterns which Sea Star catalogs. Sea Star is equipped with two cameras to record 3D videos of the bioluminescence, as well as a Photomultiplier Tube to record light levels with extreme precision. Both these features, combined with intelligent processing to recognize bioluminescence, rectify the video, and convert them from grayscale to RGB, will allow Sea Star's neural networks to identify the subspecies of ostracods, and even recognize new species.

Description

Ophthalmologists are prone to musculoskeletal disorders due to their hunched posture when operating a surgical microscope. True Posture aims to provide insights on posture when using a 3D microscope visualization system in contrast to a traditional surgical microscope. True Posture implements a system that measures the electrical activity produced by skeletal back muscle while performing surgery using electromyography (EMG) sensors. The data collected from these sensors is used to provide insights on the surgeon's musculoskeletal state.

Description

The VisHawk project is pursuing RF-silent autonomous flight of multirotor UAVs between ships underway at sea. We implement this behaviour by guiding the final approach with Apriltag visual fiducials. Using GPS and a known initial trajectory of the landing vessel, VisHawk closes to within visual range of the vessel. VisHawk then uses the visual marker to produce a safe approach trajectory, updating in real time to consider uncertainties such as sea conditions moving the deck of the landing vessel.
